Mighty Tieton tours with Ed Marquand

Join Mighty Tieton founder and owner of Paper Hammer Books, Ed Marquand, for a tour of Mighty Tieton and learn the story of how this tiny town came back to life through creative practices. Get an inside look into the artist studios and learn about the ins and outs of creative enterprise as civic activism.

Mosaic walk tour with Lucas Spivey, ‘09

Explore the role of civic investment in the arts on a walking tour of Tieton with Lucas Spivey, ’09, partner at Services Invisible and Executive Director of Tieton Arts and Humanities.

Studio tour & sound installation by Trimpin, kinetic sculptor

A MacArthur “Genius” Award and a Guggenheim Fellow, Trimpin is a German-born kinetic sculptor, sound artist and musician.  He “manufactures orchestras that play themselves,”  and is described in New York’s Village Voice as “a genius at circuitry and machinery as well as acoustics and musical structure.” He has been hailed as “one of the awesome musical geniuses of the early 21st century.”

Shop Talk: CoMotion — Design as a Mindset and Practice

Vikram Jandhyala, UW Vice President for Innovation Strategy and Executive Director of CoMotion, will moderate a panel of distinguished UW faculty on Design as a Mindset and Practice. This cross-disciplinary panel will broach topics including the role of design in innovation and education, how to elevate design, design as a theme-based methodology and beyond. The panel includes Linda Wagner, senior lecturer in Human Centered Design & Engineering (HCDE) and the full-time director of the Master of Human-Computer Interaction & Design (MHCI+D) graduate program; Thaisa Way, an urban landscape historian teaching history, theory and design in the department of Landscape Architecture in the College of Built Environments; and Tad Hirsch, associate professor of Interaction Design and director of the Public Practice Studio, a multidisciplinary, public-interest design group.

The Jacob Lawrence Gallery: This Is Everything That One Needs

Jacob Lawrence Gallery interns Kalina Chung and Joanna Lee have selected exemplary work by recent graduates of the UW School of Art. Works include an array of media from all departments. The title of the exhibition, This Is Everything That One Needs, is a sly acronym of “Tieton” reflecting the importance of such opportunities for young artists as well as a contemplating imperative for viewers.

Shop Talk: Sandra Kroupa — Connecting Creativity: Artists’ Books at the University of Washington Libraries

This illustrated talk by Sandra Kroupa, Book Arts & Rare Book Curator at the UW, features the major thematic areas of collecting for the Special Collections Book Arts Collection. Building the Collection for over 48 years, Sandra has witnessed and responded to shifting artistic styles, subjects of significance and changes in the basic composition of the field. The talk will focus on work from the United States in the last 30 years, with a hands-on opportunity to experience items from her personal collection.

Au Collective

Au Collective invites you to dance with them! They are made up of eleven dancers exploring hardships, relationships and the infinite power of community through movement. Within this multi-cultural family of artists, Au Collective celebrates the inherent diversity in unison. They believe that it is only through the conscious blending of different realities that we can create the joyous world we want to live in: “We move from/for the earth, we move from/for our ancestors, and we move from/for each other, and we want to share that with you.”

Be Creative.
